Environmental Science Club

Environmental Science Club Main Page Image

The Environmental Science Club was founded four years ago by a group of active students, motivated to change Baker High School into a greener, more environmentally friendly school. The club continues its efforts today by sponsoring the following annual projects:

  • Keep Mobile Beauitiful Electronic Recycling: This event is held twice a year at the Greater Gulf State Fairgrounds. In addition to this project, we work closely with Keep Mobile Beautiful on additional projects that include community education and tree plantings alongside many major roads, including Ziegler, Demotropolis, and Airport.
  • RC&D and Goodwill Easter Seals West Mobile Community Recycling:
  • This event is held the last Saturday of each month and is run by Baker students. Residents in the community can drop off many recyclables that Baker students will collect and have recycled. Recyclables taken at this event include: paper, plastic (#1, #2), glass, aluminum, and steel cans.
  • Additional campus activities include paper recycling in every classroom along with plastic and aluminum recycling on the concourse and in other locations within the building.
  • Mobile Bay National Estuary Program: Grasses in Classes

Students grow and maintain salt marsh (Juncus and Spartina) grasses on campus,           then transplant them at various sites, including Mobile Bay. We have transplanted   thousands of plants and continue this restoration project yearly.

In addition, the club participates in many other programs and has won several awards for work done on campus and abroad.
