Welcome to the Baker High Library. Here you will learn about the Baker High School Library's offerings. Programs offered through the library include media management classes and the Alabama Virtual Library. The Alabama Virtual Library provides all students, teachers, and Alabama citizens with online access to essential library and information resources. The AVL uses databases, to name a few: AccessScience, Alabama Libraries, EBSCOhost, Electric Library, FirstSearch, Gale Library, Grolier Online, Poemfinder, Proquest, African American Fact on File, SIRS Knowledge Source, and Encyclopedia Britannica.
A program, Destiny, is commonly used in the library. Destiny, a computerized card catalog, contains a brief description of every book in the library. Books may be searched by title, author , or subject. By using Destiny you can look to see if the library has a particular book and if it is/ is not checked out.
Another part of the library is the Media Management Classes. With the MMC, students can earn a full credit for working in the library for a semester. Students help with regular library duties, assist students and teachers, and learn valuable library skills.
A few rules:
1. A student must have a pass to enter and leave the media center.
2. Students are not to change, delete, or download anything to the computers.
3.NO food or drinks in the library. Please help us keep all materials clean and in order.
4. Reference books may be checked out overnight. Fines for Reference books are 30 cents per day.
5. A student may check out two books at a time for a three week period. Fines for overdue materials is 5 cents per day.
